During the ACTwatch project period, Nigeria had one of the largest African populations living in a holoendemic malaria transmission area. Therefore, it had a high malaria burden and a high demand for antimalarials. Due to its shared borders and a substantial pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, it was a strong model to monitor cross-border market issues. Nigeria was one of the pilot countries for the AMFm "factory-gate" subsidy for ACTs from 2010-2013.

ACTwatch conducted four outlet surveys (2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015), two household surveys (2009 and 2012), and qualitative and quantitative supply chain research (2009) in Nigeria. Results from all surveys and research are available at the Results & publications page.
